☆ Let's Call it "MAGIC"
The term for Mikale’s role in the universe isn’t quite concrete. For simplicity’s sake, he and many others use the term “magician” because it is generally acceptable and vague enough for what he does.
Once a human, Mikale learned to break the laws of reality that held him in the 4th dimension. In a simple analogy, Mikale now understands the word as a series of programs– like a computer. What he calls “magic” for simplicity’s sake is the ability to hack and alter that program as he sees fit.
Magicians like Mikale can even use this ability to move between spaces and times, largely using quantum theory to guide them. These magicians have “transcended” to a higher dimensional plane. In Mikale’s case, he is only able to reach the 7th dimension: He can visit alternate timelines, new worlds, and new universes…
But he cannot even begin to fathom universes with different physical laws. Unable to make this leap mentally, Mikale cannot master the “magic” that he would need to transcend into the 8th and 9th dimensions. And unable to even get that far, he is unable to become omnipotent like Satou and Shugo.
In exchange for his humanity, the Unknown Cruelty gave Mikale foresight. In truth, this foresight is closer to turning Mikale into a “receiver.” Magicians of a higher plane of existence are able to send Mikale visions of the future in the form of dreams. Mikale’s ability does not allow him to filter these messages, and he can only receive one per sleep.
Generally, this means that the Mikale of a higher plane will see an ending and send it to his mortal self, so that he might take action against it. Due to his goal of saving Satou, this makes almost all his dreams related to her.
And because he’s honestly a boring existence, not many Magicians have any reason to bother sending him visions. It is almost always Mikale sending himself visions. However, he cannot filter out what he receives. Anyone who knows of his ability and wants him to see something can send it.
The other drawback is that these visions are typically dark. Mikale is usually only warning himself of tragedy that he wants prevented. When Mikale sleeps, he is almost always bombarded in horrific vision that manifest as night terrors. He is often exhausted as a result.
When Mikale travels through universes, he is not doing so physically. It is not his body that travels, but his consciousness. When he visits another world, he drops his consciousness into an existing Mikale and changes him from a Human to a Magician.
On one hand, this is convenient. Mikale will instantly learn the basics of his power and be able to use them from the instant he receives the vision. He immediately becomes the Magician and has all his old desires and feelings.
But on the other hand… Mikale does not lose his human memories. The Magician remembers his old life in that world and everything he learned there. Generally, this is harmless. It helps him blend in. He already has a life there that is real, and he remembers all the friends he met there. Often, his feelings for them are unchanged. When conflicting, Mikale prioritizes positive feelings over negative. If he hates someone in his Human life, his Magician self may remember liking them and immediately forgive them.
But there is a huge downside. That is that Mikale is bound by some details of the new world’s reality. For example, if the Mikale of that universe is actively religious due a strong spiritual presence then he will never let himself surpass the gods. He is a humble spirit, and cannot imagine himself being able to do what gods do. So he won’t. Without the imagination, he can’t perform the magic.
It’s true that Mikale is essentially ageless. When his Magician mind inhabits a body, it is granted timelessness until he leaves. However, he can still be killed physically. If Mikale’s physical body is kill, his consciousness performs an “emergency escape” so to speak and is collected in the upper dimensions. There, the “main” Mikale adds the failed life to his collection of memories and goes on.
Mikale does not understand how to heal 4th dimension bodies.
